In a post on facebook in the People of Coopertown group, mayoral candidate Robert Watts has finally outlined his vision for Coopertown, albeit with an unconventional approach. Watts candidly admitted he doesn’t have a formal, laid-out platform, but shared a series of goals he hopes to achieve if elected.
His vision includes improving communication and transparency between City Hall and residents, cutting unnecessary spending, and prioritizing road maintenance, starting with ditches and bridges. He also aims to restructure the town’s website for better accessibility, encourage business development near the interstate, and work on renegotiating contracts with the Pleasant View Fire Department.
Watts emphasized the need for more community involvement, proposing that town officials actively engage with residents rather than waiting for feedback. Additionally, he expressed a desire to amend or abolish outdated ordinances and strengthen relationships with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and Robertson County—connections he believes were strained under previous administrations.
One of his more ambitious goals is to lower or completely eliminate property taxes. He also addressed concerns about Coopertown’s border roads, suggesting they should either be maintained by the town or exempt from Coopertown property taxes if they’re not receiving proper services.
While his approach may be less structured than traditional platforms, Watts sees these points as a starting blueprint for his tenure. “These are just a starting point to what I want to see happen,” he said, inviting residents to join him in shaping Coopertown’s future. Whether his brand and vision will resonate with voters remains to be seen.
