Coopertown embarked on a new chapter of leadership as Jeff Smith was sworn in as Mayor during a Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting tonight. The event, held at the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Station in Coopertown, marked a smooth transition of power and a renewed commitment to Coopertown’s future. Joining Mayor Smith in their oaths of office were Ward 1 Alderman Tim Mason and Ward 2 Alderman Candace Rundle, who bring fresh energy and ideas to the board.
With about 40 people in attendance, outgoing Mayor Becca Werner opened the meeting at 6 p.m. for the final time. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, roll call of officers, and approval of the previous meeting’s minutes, Mayor Werner expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family, city employees, and the community for their support during her tenure. “It has been an honor to serve as your mayor,” she said, before administering the oath of office to Mayor-Elect Jeff Smith, officially passing the reins of leadership.
Taking the helm, Mayor Smith welcomed the meeting’s attendees and thanked them for their presence. He then swore in Ward 1 Alderman Tim Mason and Ward 2 Alderman Candace Rundle, marking the official start of their terms on the board. The ceremony was a proud moment for all three leaders, who share a vision for Coopertown centered on unity, transparency, and thoughtful growth.
The transition was seamless, and Mayor Smith wasted no time in getting down to business. His first act as mayor was to oversee the election of a vice mayor. Ward 1 Alderman Robert Dale Anderson, a respected and experienced member of the board, was re-elected to continue serving in this capacity.
With the formalities concluded, the board turned its attention to the town’s ongoing work. The meeting resumed without much fanfare, reflecting the board’s readiness to roll up their sleeves and tackle Coopertown’s priorities. Following the meeting there was a brief social with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres for attendees and the newly installed officers.
