The Coopertown Community Development Committee’s Veterans Day Chili Cook-Off, held on November 2, 2024, was a delicious success, bringing together residents to honor veterans and enjoy some friendly culinary competition. With 10 chili entries and around 40 attendees, the event was a cozy gathering that showcased the community’s culinary talent and appreciation for local veterans.
The panel of judges included Bob Krause of the Coopertown Men’s Club, as well as Amanda Baker and Sedric Hardin, both Coopertown Police officers and veterans, who took their tasting duties seriously, evaluating each chili based on flavor, texture, and creativity.
After much deliberation, Bryan Jurgovan emerged as the first-place winner, with his wife, Jennifer Jurgovan, taking second place, and Meghan Keohane earning third.
Attendees also had a chance to vote for their favorite chili, with the coveted People’s Choice Award going to Tim Mason, candidate for Coopertown Ward 1 Alderman, who impressed attendees with his unique take on the classic dish.
The event was generously supported by local sponsors, including EZ Lift Garage Doors, Flytes Brewhouse, Swezey’s Pub, and the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department. Their contributions helped make the cook-off possible and added to the festive, community-oriented atmosphere of the event.
The Veterans Day Chili Cook-Off provided a wonderful opportunity for Coopertown residents to come together, enjoy great food, and celebrate the service of local veterans. With delicious chili, friendly competition, and strong community support, the event was a heartwarming reminder of Coopertown’s community spirit.
